چکیده
The global rise in antimicrobial resistance and lack of discovery new antimicrobials have created serious concerns. Targeting quorum sensing (QS) biofilms pathogenic bacteria is considered a promising approach drug discovery. This study explored the inhibitory effect plumbagin against QS Chromobacterium violaceum, Serratia marcescens Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Violacein production C. violaceum 12472 was reduced by >80%. virulent traits P. aeruginosa PAO1 such as pyocyanin, rhamnolipid proteases were also inhibited at sub-minimum concentrations. Moreover, test 56–70%. Plumbagin bacterial adherence colonization on solid surface. Computational studies gave closer insights regarding possible modes action. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that protein complexes quite stable under physiological conditions. provides both experimental computational evidence efficacy QS-controlled virulence factors Gram-negative bacteria.

Quorum-sensing in Gram-negative bacteria.
It has become increasingly and widely recognised that bacteria do not exist as solitary cells, but are colonial organisms that exploit elaborate systems of intercellular communication to facilitate their adaptation to changing environmental conditions. The languages by which bacteria communicate take the form of chemical signals, excreted from the cells, which can elicit profound physiological ...
متن کاملQuorum-Sensing Signal Disperses Bacteria from Biofilms
Biofilms are complex bacterial communities that range from bioluminescent pools in oceans to plaque buildup on teeth. These communities use quorum-sensing signals to modify their behaviors for optimal resilience against potential threats. Now researchers who study biofilms that cohabitate with marine sponges have discovered a quorum-sensing signal that controls the formation of the flagellum, a...
متن کاملQuorum Sensing in Microbial Virulence
Cell-to cell communication occurs via a signaling pathway referred to as quorum sensing. There are four main types of these systems according to the chemical nature of signal molecules used by microorganisms to elicit expression of target genes in response to environmental stimuli or need of microbial communities. Type I system acts by using acyl homoserine lactones as signals to trigger the ex...
متن کاملCold Plasma Inactivation of Bacterial Biofilms and Reduction of Quorum Sensing Regulated Virulence Factors
The main objectives of this work were to investigate the effect of atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) against a range of microbial biofilms commonly implicated in foodborne and healthcare associated human infections and against P. aeruginosa quorum sensing (QS)-regulated virulence factors, such as pyocyanin, elastase (Las B) and biofilm formation capacity post-ACP treatment. The effect of processing...
متن کاملSub-MICs of Mentha piperita essential oil and menthol inhibits AHL mediated quorum sensing and biofilm of Gram-negative bacteria
Bacterial quorum sensing (QS) is a density dependent communication system that regulates the expression of certain genes including production of virulence factors in many pathogens. Bioactive plant extract/compounds inhibiting QS regulated gene expression may be a potential candidate as antipathogenic drug. In this study anti-QS activity of peppermint (Mentha piperita) oil was first tested usin...
